Sub pages

Sub pages is a functionality of eDition that allows you to create what you could call layered digital publications. Instead of displaying any sequence of pages in a conventional way from the first and until the last, you can decide which pages of your publication will act as parent pages and assign any number of sub pages to the parent pages.

As an example we will work with a publication thatcontains eleven pages. You can check the current page hierarchy by clicking on the »Publication page depth« button in the details section of the eDition application user interface.

Publication page depth

In order to use sub pages you first need to change the publications view mode to »Single page« if set differently.

Decide which pages you want to act as a parent pages. Lets say we want to set pages 3,4 and 5 of our example publication as sub pages of page 2. To achieve this we need to select each of the three pages in the pages section individually and double-click the »Is Subpage« option in the »Details« section.

Publication page depth

If we take a look at the page hierarchy again you will notice that pages 3,4 and 5 were relocated below page number 2 and thus acting as sub pages of page 2.

We will repeat the same procedure for page eleven and change the current last page to a sub page of page 10.Looking at the page hierarchy one last time reveals that we assigned a total of 4 sub pages – 3 of those correspond with page 2 and one corresponds with page 10.

When you open the publication online or on the iPad device and navigate to one of the parent pages you will notice a blue indication icon in the bottom left corner of the page. This icon tells you that sub pages are present and that you can click on the icon to view the pages.
